Press conference and kick-off event of the ZeroWaste project

On 23 May 2023, the first official press conference of the project ‘ZeroWaste: Theory for Everybody, Practice for Everyone in the Cross-Border Region’ (HUSKROUA/1701/LIP/006) was held in Nyíregyháza (HU), and on 8 June the project kick-off event was held in Yanoshi, Berehove district (UA).

The project is implemented within the framework of the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020 completed with the financial support of the Ministry of Energy of Hungary.

The project includes the construction of a landfill, the purchase of equipment for selective waste collection and the establishment of a network of solid waste collection points.

The aim of the project is to introduce an integrated approach and to create a sustainable, environmentally sound waste management system that addresses problems at a deeper level, not just at the surface.

At the May press conference held in the County Council, the President of Tisza EGTC, Oszkár Seszták welcomed the participants, including the mayors coming from the Transcarpathian Region, the team of the grouping and the representatives of the press.

He said that the budget of the project is €7,833,403, of which 5 million € is EU funding from the ENI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020 Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine, and the Ministry of Energy’s contribution exceeds 916 million forints.

The first ever waste sorting and landfilling complex in the Ukrainian Transcarpathian Region has a planned capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year, which, given the amount of waste will solve the problem of waste landfilling in the Berehovo district, for 25-30 years.
