The Research Institute for National Strategy and its partners held the opening event of the Planning4U project in Nyíregyháza on Friday, 7 March. The aim of the project is to help the development and cooperation of the Hungarian, Romanian and Ukrainian border regions, taking into account the difficulties and consequences of the war in Ukraine. The programme involves several Hungarian and cross-border organisations from Romania and Ukraine.

The event underlined that joint planning and cooperation is essential for the security and development of the region. The project has a budget of more than €600,000 and aims to address, among other things, the challenges posed by the administrative reforms in Ukraine and the war, as well as to develop development plans for the border region.

Dr. Márton Péti, Vice President of the Research Institute for National Strategy, the lead partner of the project, stressed that global geopolitical changes are particularly felt in the Carpathian region, in the border regions of Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Ukraine. He said that the project aims to provide an opportunity for the actors in the region to think together and shape the future, while turning the changes to the benefit of the region.

The expected duration of the project is 24 months, during which time the Hungarian, Romanian and Ukrainian partners will work together on development plans in response to the challenges of the war, carrying out impact assessments.
