Project launch meeting in Berehove within the framework of the Planning4U project

The Association of Transcarpathian Border Municipalities (KHÖT), as the Ukrainian partner of the project, organised a meeting in Berehove to present the Planning4U project implemented under the Interreg VI-A NEXT HUSKROUA Programme. The event, held on 29 April 2025, was attended by the lead partner’s representatives: Jenő Szász, Ministerial Commissioner and President of the Research Institute for National Strategy, and Márton Péti, Deputy President of the Research Institute for National Strategy.

József Rezes, Director of theAssociation of Transcarpathian Border Municipalities, welcomed the mayors and leaders of the micro-regions who attended the event at the Beregszász Town Hall. He expressed his hope that, as a result of the joint efforts of the four countries – Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine – in the border regions, the Planning4U project would give new impetus to the development of the region. The guests were welcomed by Zoltán Babják, President of KHÖT, and Andrea Szabóné Cap, Director of the Tisza EGTC, who also represented the Local Government of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County at the event.

Márton Péti, Vice-President of NSKI and Technical Director of Planning4U, presented the background of the project. He said that 14 micro-regional development plans are being drawn up in the Carpathian region as part of the project, which will provide a suitable basis for the participating local authorities to prepare the planning documents required by Ukrainian law. In Szatmár County, development plans will also be drawn up for three settlements located in the region bordering Hungary.

The project pays special attention to Transcarpathia, as this region is experiencing economic development alongside a humanitarian crisis as a result of the war. As Ukraine’s most peaceful county, it has attracted factories and businesses, which has development potential and could shape the entire border region.

The project started on 1 January 2025 and will end on 31 December 2026.
